News CMS is – as the name implies – a news-slash-article-slash-cms WordPress Theme. The goal here was to provide a customizable theme that could be turned into any given news site with as little as a graphical face lift. The emphasis with News CMS is on customization rather than aesthetics. It’s one of the very first themes I did with the intent of release (about a year ago), but it still holds up so I figured I’d take some time and package it up as a Thanksgiving freebie.
News CMS uses quite a few plugins, but I’ve included them in the download to make life a little easier for you. This theme still functions without any of them, but I strongly recommend you install them as the site functions much more like a news site with their aid.
What’s Next?
I’m working a premium theme called WP Slider that takes the best aspects of WP CODA and ads all the standard functionality we’ve discussed putting into CODA BLUE but didn’t get the chance to. If I can, I’ll release WP Slider and then release a Christmas theme for it.

Nice release! Thanks a lot!

Only for 1280*1024 & more (((
A truly excellent theme, Greg – whatever you do… don’t stop!
Great! I like it so much. Thank a lot for your clever works.
The font of the teasers is too small. And increase the line-height a bit.
@pingwin
This theme was built on my Ad Crazy Layout. The underlying structure was meant to accomidate any standard ad size, and because of that the layout is slightly wider than a 1024px wide monitor. Fortunately nothing important gets cut off, but I do share your lack of enthusiasm for the resulting width. Fortunately it is VERY easy to change the width of any one of the 7 resulting columns.
@Alex
I’m quite happy the font size and line-height, but that’s more a personal taste issue. Changing either of these things is quite easy though.
nice…so nice thanks a lot…

Greg,
Great new theme! Any chance of that article with how to insert a blog in WP code coming out? Or are you going to just save that for the Slider theme now? Thanks!

Hi Greg, where to place the code (and which code to use) in order to show “Previous Page – Next Page” links at the botom of “recent articles”? i’d like it at the botom of each category page as well. I tried to do it, but the links appears on the footer.
Thanks in advance

@tingtong
I’m not entirely sure. I’d have to take a look at the theme (I did develop it a year ago) again, and I’m not sure when I’ll have time. Although, it should be a fairly straight forward solution.
Hi Greg, nice theme there.
But a little confusion over the function.php file.
What should we put for these two ?
$BustATheme['recent'] = ???;
$BustATheme['popularArticles'] = ???;
Thanks

thanks. Very great theme!
@maolana,
Thank you for the offer. It’s much appreciated.
Right now though, I just want to give these themes away. It’s my goal to provide everyone with wonderful quality free themes and then offer paid themes down the road. So save your money because you never know, you just might want a future theme!

Hi Greg,
This theme is fantastic and would be PERFECT for what we need for our local darts league (very random I know).
However, I can’t set the categories up to show the right ones on the “latest in” header.
I change:
$BustATheme['tab1'] = 25;
to
$BustATheme['THE NAME OF MY CATEGORY'] = 25;
is this correct? Because I can’t get the header to work.
And do I need to set the numbers for something or leave them alone?
I have read the updated help file here:https://docs.google.com/View?docID=dcxssk5c_9s3gzjbcs&revision=_latest but after a few hours of messing about I just can’t get this to work.
Any help from you or from another reader who has got this theme working would be massively appreciated.
This theme’s Amazing, very Excellent!
thx alot
Hi Greg, this is a very good quality theme.
You may have just saved my marketing and monetization life with this wonderful and complete template package! I can’t begin to list all of the ‘hidden’ virtues and possibilities that keep manifesting themselves as I progress through the editing of it for my own domain.
I am extremely fussy about every detail and thus far I have found easy ways to adjust the editable part of the code to suit different browsers and my own needs. Whatever glitches are encountered, I have found a workaround.
Let me tell you, I’ve been around the Wordpress theme block, the website coding process and the Internet marketing juggernaut and this single design outperforms and outdelivers anything and everything out there to date!
My goal is to bring people to my site and demographically feed them not only with news and editorial content but PPC advertising, affiliate product text and banners, and sundry other monetization streams without them ever being aware that I’m trying to sell them anything.
Bravo!
By the way, this is for thegooser123 or anyone else with the same problem:
- Make your category page;
- Note the id number of that page when you click on it (look for the “?page_id=” part of the address for that page)
- Change the default value of “25″ in the line “$BustATheme['tab1'] = 25;” line to read whatever the “page_id number” is for that category page you just created. Don’t replace “[tab1]” or whatever with anything else.
- Make sure you edit the “latest-in-tabs.png” image to reflect the associated category(ies).
Here is mine as an example:
$BustATheme['tab1'] = 24;
$BustATheme['tab2'] = 4;
$BustATheme['tab3'] = 23;
$BustATheme['tab4'] = 14;
$BustATheme['tab5'] = 7;
wow! is a great design
I absolutely love it. I will get it for my new blog…thanks for your great post!!
Maybe it would be an idea to mix this theme up with the new WP Slider theme. A little more graphical version of this one.
Grtz from the Netherlands,
good,i love you,very Beautiful themes
good theme !!! so nice ….i will use it .. thanks.. if i got some questions with this free theme . how can i get help ?
Unbelievable great theme!
This is just what i needed.. thanx a zillion, greg
Nice release! Thanks a lot!
Can you tell me if the themes will work with wordpress 2.85?
Thanks
@Wristband Man
Because this theme in particular requires several plugins to function (This was one of the first themes I ever made), the functionality depends on the compatibility of the functions required to run the theme.
